SAN ANGELO, TX -- Tom Green County Commissioners Tuesday lifted the ban on outdoor burning and ended negotiations and rejected all bids for courthouse renovation during their regular meeting.
Emergency Management Director Steve Mild recommended lifting the burn ban for one week telling commissioners there is a significant chance for freezing precipitation this week.
The court also ended negotiations with Phoenix 1 Restoration for courthouse construction manager at risk and rejected all bids. The county remodeled the Keyes building and moved the treasurer and auditor offices out of the courthouse in anticipation of renovating and updating it to accommodate necessary courtrooms but the new jail project complications and the lack of a plan to relocate the district courts while the courthouse is being renovated have stalled the renovation plans.
Also Tuesday accepted the County Essentials Program - Capital Trial Expenses grant from the Office of the Governor in the amount of $250,000 and adopted a budget to expend the funds. The state funding will go toward offsetting a portion of the cost of prosecuting capital murder cases. There are about a dozen capital murder cases pending in Tom Green County.
Commissioners also approved applying to host the 2020 West Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association Annual Conference.
