SAN ANGELO, TX – The year of 2018 started off with a radiant supermoon last night and tomorrow night we will get to see another celestial wonder.
The first meteor shower of the year, the Quadrantids, will peak on the night of January 3 and early morning of January 4, according to timeanddate.com.
The Quadrantids usually are active between the end of December and the second week of January. Unlike other meteor showers that tend to stay at their peak for about two days, the peak of the Quadrantids is only a few hours.
Meteors, or shooting stars, are easy to spot; all you need is a clear sky and a pair of eyes.
While it is not necessary to look in a particular direction to enjoy the meteor shower, astronomers suggest lying down on the ground looking toward the North and look at the sky above you. A Full Moon may make it difficult to see the fainter meteors. For the best results, find a place as far as possible from artificial lights.
Make sure to bring something to sit or lie down on. Stargazing is a waiting game, so you might as well be comfortable.
