County to Designate Convention Center as Courthouse for Delacruz Capital Murder Trial

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Tom Green County Commissioners on Tuesday will again consider renting the McNease Convention Center and designating it as a courthouse for the Isidro Delacruz capital murder trial set to begin January 11, 2018.

According to the regular meeting agenda, commissioners will consider designating the convention center as a court, then consider a short term rental agreement with the city of San Angelo for the rental of the convention center, and then consider a request by District Clerk Sheri Woodfin to increase the Jury Petty Cash for the month of January 2018.

Woodfin is expected to call 450 to 500 potential jurors for the capital murder trial.

In other business, commissioners will consider entering into negotiations with KFA architects for modifications to the detention center contract.  As we reported last week, the county jail project and courthouse remodel project are in limbo after receiving information from the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.

The court will consider accepting a $4.5 million grant for construction projects at Goodfellow Air Force Base.

The Tom Green County Commissioners Court meets at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday on the second floor of the Keyes building downtown.
