Replica of Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall Coming to San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX—The Wall That Heals, a 250-foot replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, along with a mobile education center, is coming to the Fort Concho National Historic Landmark Nov. 15 - Nov. 19.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. is one of the most visited memorials in the nation’s capital. With more than 3 million Americans serving during the Vietnam War, the replica was built in 1982 by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund to give veterans and family members across the country the opportunity to see the memorial.

“Taking The Wall That Heals on the road gives thousands more veterans and their family members an opportunity to see The Wall and honor those who have served and sacrificed so much,” said Jim Knotts, president and CEO of VVMF, in a press release. “It helps veterans from all of America’s conflicts to find healing and a powerful connection through their common military experiences.”

The Wall made a stop in San Angelo in 2007 as well, although it was a different version. JJ Graham, Heritage Chapter President of the Freedom Through Vigilance Association, said the association is excited to bring The Wall to San Angelo, in hopes of renewing interest in the Vietnam War. He said he also hopes it gives veterans in the area some closure, and the opportunity to receive thanks from the community.

The public can visit The Wall and the mobile education center 24 hours a day. For more information, visit thewallthatheals.org or the local website, thewallsanangelo.com.
