SAN ANGELO, TX -- Most City offices will be closed Friday, Nov. 10, in observance of Veterans Day. There will be no interruption of garbage collection or landfill operations.
Fairmount Cemetery will not host its traditional Veterans Day ceremony Saturday because of scheduling conflicts with other observances throughout the community. Even so, more than 1,400 American flags will be placed on the graves of the veterans buried at Fairmount, 1120 W. Avenue N, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5.
Observed each year on Nov. 11 – Armistice Day, which marks the end of World War I – Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.
Fort Concho, including the Barracks 1 Visitor Center, will be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 10-11 for self-guided tours. The fort’s living history volunteers will also participate in the Veterans Day parade downtown at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11.
Among the City operations that will be closed Nov. 10: Station 618 and Santa Fe Crossing senior centers, Southside and Carl Ray Johnson recreation centers, the McNease Convention Center, the San Angelo-Tom Green County Health Department, Fairmount Cemetery’s business offices, Municipal Court, the San Angelo Nature Center and the Animal Shelter.
City offices will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13.
