Central vs Frenship: The Stuff 'Trap Games' are Made Of

The Central Bobcats will travel to the Lubbock area on Friday night to take on Frenship in their third district game of the year.

Central is undefeated with an overall 6-0 record and 2-0 district record. They're currently tied for first in district 2-6A with Permian.

Frenship, on the other hand, hasn't won a game all season. That doesn't mean the Bobcats should write them off.

In their 52-42 win over Killeen Shoemaker earlier this year, Central got off to a slow start and overlooking Shoemaker could have been a reason for that.

As has been the theme since that game, starting off strong will be key for Central this week against the Tigers.

Last week's 52-28 win over previously undefeated Midland Lee proved that. The Bobcats jumped out to an early 21-0 lead in the first quarter and scored 35 unanswered points in the first half. The Bobcats also forced three turnovers and recovered a muffed kickoff en-route to the win.

While Central should be favored in this game, it's always worth noting that anyone can win on any given day. Frenship is looking up at Central from the bottom of the barrel and, with that target on their back, Central should be expecting Frenship's best. It's just unknown how good their best will truly be.

On paper, Frenship's best may not rival Central's. The Bobcats are averaging 122 more yards per game than Frenship. The Tigers are also allowing an average of 52.4 points per game, more than twice the 22.3 average Central is allowing. The Bobcats are also putting up 46.2 points per game.

None of Frenship's last five games support any claim that they could beat Central. In those five games, Frenship has lost by a combined score of 242-40. But that's why a 'trap game' is called that; a much better team falls into a trap against a lesser opponent and loses a game they should win.

With that being said, Central should not lose this game and it would be a tremendous shock if they did.
