SAN ANGELO, TX—Jaime Guerrero, the City of San Angelo’s chief accountant, has been promoted to assistant director of the Finance Department, where he will oversee the crafting and the management of the City’s $136 million budget.
Guerrero joined the City in 2013 as chief accountant, overseeing the Accounting division. The City has since earned four straight Certificates of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report. The Accounting division is integral in the production of the report – the annual financial audit of the City conducted by external auditors.
Guerrero served as controller at San Angelo Community Medical Center from 2008-13 and as assistant controller for three years prior to that. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
“We’re fortunate to have someone as knowledgeable, as capable and as meticulous as Jaime on our team to step into this critical position,” Finance Director Tina Dierschke said.
As part of his duties managing the Budget division, Guerrero will prepare the City’s Capital Improvement Plan, conduct an annual fee review and ensure the City’s compliance with financial regulatory requirements. He will assist Dierschke in the administration of the Finance Department’s five other divisions: Accounting, Billing and Receipts, Purchasing, Information Technology and Real Estate.
“One of the things I enjoyed about serving as chief accountant was the chance to work with all of our departments,” Guerrero said. “This represents an opportunity to have an even greater impact on the City’s financial health. I’m eager to help my colleagues ensure the tax dollars we’re entrusted with lead to maximum benefits through the services the City delivers.”
