SAN ANGELO, TX -- A 24-year-old San Angelo woman was arrested Sunday evening after she fled from Police in a stolen vehicle and collided with another driver Sunday evening.
Just after 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 27, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the 2500 block of Martin Luther King Drive for the report of a 2004 Chevrolet Trail Blazer that had just been stolen by a woman with black and red hair.
A short time after taking the report, the officer observed the stolen vehicle traveling northbound in the 1400 block of Irving Street. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop; however, the driver attempted to evade the officer at a high rate of speed, failed to stop at a stop sign and subsequently collided with another motorist near West 15th Street and North Bryant Boulevard. The force of the collision caused the stolen vehicle to flip over.
The suspect, Marisol A. Zapata, exited the vehicle and complained of injuries. Zapata, who has short brown hair, was transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries. Police located a black and red-streaked wig amongst the debris that spilled out into the roadway during the collision.
Upon her release, Zapata was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and charged with Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle and Evading Arrest Detention.
The passing motorist who Zapata injured, a 29-year-old Midland man, was also transported to Shannon Medical Center where he was treated for non-incapacitating injuries and later released.
