SAN ANGELO, TX -- Hundreds of area residents gathered at Foster Field at Angelo State University Monday afternoon to view and celebrate the first solar eclipse in 38 years.
The San Angelo Astronomy Association held watch parties at Foster Field and at the Tom Green County Central Library downtown from 11:30 a.m. til 2:30 p.m. They had telescopes with filter set up for spectators to view the eclipse through.
Angelo State University President Dr. Brian May attended the viewing along with young children and some seasoned citizens as well. There were lots of oohs and aahs when it was announced over the public address system that the eclipse was total shortly after 1:00 p.m.
The next solar eclipse will be on April 8, 2024 and will be visible from Texas.
