The Wall Hawks girls basketball team was recognized for their recent victory winning them the state champion title at Tuesday's City Council meeting. Mayor Dwain Morrison called the team forth to recognize them for their achievements, alongside Councilman Rodney Fleming.
We just want to recognize them today for this great accomplishment…very rarely does a local team make it all the way to state…” Fleming said Tuesday morning. “I also want to mention that there was not a single senior on the starting line.”
The girls came bearing gold medals and a trophy with a basketball net around it, and were greeted with applause by those in attendance.
Next, Mayor Morrison issued a proclamation to the Principal and ECC Director of Trinity Lutheran School, declaring March “National Lutheran School’s Month”.
March 2-8 was named “Severe Weather Week” at the meeting, and Mayor Morrison presented the proclamation promoting awareness and knowledge of different types of weather issues. Emergency Management Coordinator was not present to receive the award, however will receive it at a later date.
Council also recognized the local Red Cross chapter, presenting a proclamation dedicating March as “American Red Cross Month”. A member of the organization’s board stepped forward to not only thank the population, but also the 127 volunteers that make the Red Cross possible.
