UPDATES: 3,300 Lost Power Tuesday Night from Storm

SAN ANGELO, TX — AEP Texas spokesman Fred Hernandez said approximately 3,300 customers are without power following the storm that hit the San Angelo area Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service in San Angelo said the line of thunderstorms that hit San Angelo at approximately 7 p.m. had been building northwest of here around Sweetwater. As the Sweetwater line moved south, it joined another line before reaching Tom Green County.

At Mathis Field, the NWS recorded max wind gusts of 55 mph with heavy rains. The NWS estimates 0.5 to 1 inch of rainfall. Tomorrow there is a 20-30 percent chance of thunderstorms, however, tonight we will see rain showers and as of 8:52 p.m. lightning and thunder in the region.

AEP said the storm caused a transmission outage that is currently affecting customers in the Mathis Field, Tankersley and Mertzon areas.  

It is too soon as of 9 p.m. to give a valid estimate of when the power will be restored, Hernandez said.
