City's Water Disinfection System Reverts to Chloramines

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The City of San Angelo  Water Utilities Department reverted back to using chloramines to disinfect the public water supply today.

The Water Department normally uses chloramine, a mix of ammonia and chlorine, to disinfect water. For most of June, the Water Department used only chlorine, also known as “free chlorine.” A temporary conversion from chloramines to free chlorine is a common yearly practice for municipal water systems. The move ensures water safety in pipelines by ridding mains of residual microscopic organic particles.
