SAN ANGELO, TX – The first Baptist Retirement Run in the Sun road race took place in San Angelo in 1972. This Saturday, the 45th annual 5-mile run kicks off downtown. According to the San Angelo Road Lizards website, runners will compete in the race sanctioned by the Road Runners Club of America. Furthermore, after so many annual races, San Angelo's Run in the Sun is the longest running 8K (5-mile) race in Texas.
The Run in the Sun event is apart of the regional 8K championship for the Road Runners Club of America.
Registration and packet pickup will be from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at the corner of Concho and Oaks streets in Downtown San Angelo, Saturday morning. The race briefing begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race will start at 7:40 a.m.
Awards will be presented to the top three male and female runners in 5 age divisions.
Baptist Retirement 45th Annual Run in the Sun will host an expo and packet pickup on Friday, June 2, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Baptist Retirement Community, located at 902 N. Main St. A spaghetti dinner will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for those attending the expo.
