Concho Valley Farmers Market Begins This Weekend

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS -- The Concho Valley Farmers Market’s thrice-weekly produce sales begin again this Saturday, May 13, at 7 a.m. with a hardy spread of winter vegetables.

The vendors, who come from a 75-mile radius around San Angelo, will be offering locally grown and seasonal fruits, vegetables and plants from 7 a.m. until they sell out, typically by noon, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday after the May 13. The farmers market gathers under the pavilion located at 609 S. Oakes St. and across from Fort Concho.

Margie Jackson, president of the Concho Valley Farmers Market, said that initially the inventory will consist of items such as greens, including spinach, lettuces and collards, green and purple onions, beets, carrots, asparagus, radishes, and Swiss chards (a type of beet). Jackson added that some zucchini and squash, along with indoor and outdoor plants, pecans, goat cheese, farm-fresh eggs, coffee, and fresh herbs such as basil, thyme, cilantro, parsley and rosemary may also be for sale during the thrice weekly event.

The farmers market typically charges customers $1 for a bundle or a bowl of produce.

Farms who are interested in selling their produce can join the market for $15 or $20, which allows them to set up a stand for $5 or $10 at each sale.
