New Regulations for Lyft Drivers Emerge

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – A new ordinance brought under the City’s taxicab ordinance now requires San Angelo Lyft drivers to seek a chauffeur’s license through the Police Department.

Under Sec. 5.10.107 of the City’s Code of Ordinances, a taxicab is defined as “a chauffeured vehicle used to transport people for pay, that is open to the public and that operated on irregular routes and schedules on a call-and-demand basis.”

Forms to apply for a chauffeur’s license are available in the records division at the Police Department located at 401 E. Beauregard Ave. The application seeks basic information about the applicant, including criminal and driving records, mental and physical health, and any history of substance abuse.

Once the application has been submitted to the SAPD, obtaining a chauffeur’s license takes a minimum of 24 hours. The ordinance requires the permit must be displayed on the passenger side of the driver’s dashboard.

Applicants must pay a $25 fee and a renewing fee of $10, unless it has been revoked or has expired.

For more information about the City’s chauffeur license, call the SAPD’s records division at 325-657-4250.
