SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – The Texas Transit Association (TTA) has been presented the Concho Valley Transit District (CVTD) with the Outstanding Rural Transit System Award during the 2017 Rodeo in Lubbock, Texas.
CVTD, a program operated under the Concho Valley Council of Government, serves as rural transit district (RTD) for 12 counties in central and western Texas. Some of these counties include Coke, Concho, Crockett, Kimble, McCulloch, Sterling, and Tom Green. In 2006, CVTD took over the responsibility from the City of San Angelo to provide public transportation for the San Angelo urbanized area (UZA). Furthermore, CVTD serves as an urban transit district (UTD) as well.
Under the recent supervision of Vince Huerta from McDonald Transit, CVTD has been making waves in the Concho Valley. The organization has set a high priority for safety, reliability, and customer service for its system. CVTD has also implemented a dynamic operator training, centralized dispatching, rural buss pass system, and has introduced “regional clustering” for maximizing efficiency, all within a little over a year.
The TTA recognized CVTD for its recent innovative practices and its improvements in making services more efficient for riders.
The goals for CVTD are to continue engaging with the public, education staff and setting standards within the transit community.
