The Randy Rogers Band will perform at the San Angelo RiverStage May 6. The evening performance will feature three more yet-to-be-announced openers.
Rogers is a top act in the Texas Country Music and Country music scene. The band broke out into regional popularity in the mid-2000s with hit songs from its sophomore record, Rollercoaster. “Somebody Take Me Home” in that record was co-written with Radney Foster and also recorded by Kenny Chesney. Mercury Nashville picked up the band in 2006, and released the band’s first major label record Just a Matter of Time. Hits from that record include Kiss Me in the Dark and One More Goodbye.

If Bob Wills was the first generation of Texas Country Music; Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard the second generation; Lyle Lovett, Radney Foster and Robert Earl Keen the third; and Pat Green the fourth, Rogers led the fifth wave of the genre from his San Marcos fan base starting in the mid-2000s. Rogers found traction at that city’s Cheatham Street Warehouse, a venue he purchased late last year.
Rogers’ latest record is Nothing Shines like Neon, and the most recent single from that record is “San Antone.” The record features duets with country stalwarts like Alison Krauss, Jamey Johnson, and Jerry Jeff Walker.
