Man Who Shot 32-Year-Old Woman in Head Pleads Guilty

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – A man arrested in connection with shooting a San Angelo woman pleaded guilty to various charges this morning at the Tom Green County Courthouse.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on June 13, 2016, police were dispatched to a shots fired call. Upon arrival, they located a 32-year-old female who had been shot in the head. A few days later, Christopher Ray Chavez, then 26, was arrested in connection with the shooting. In August 2016, Chavez was released to a different agency with a $375,000 bond. 

Today, Chavez appeared before 391^st District Court Judge Brad Goodwin and pleaded guilty to the following charges: Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlicensed Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Unauthorized use of a Vehicle.

In his first plea hearing, Goodwin and the state and defense attorneys discussed a Motion to Revoke, meaning, Chavez had alleged probation violations. Chavez told Judge Goodwin “all allegations are true.”

The State recommended that Chavez serve 450 days in confinement, pay over $2,000 in fines, and serve six years in federal prison. Furthermore, Chavez faced a second Motion to Adjudicate/Revoke today, in which he also pleaded “guilty.” The State served Chavez with 12 years confinement.  

Chavez already has time credit from being in jail since June 2016 as well as between August 30 – December 3, 2015; therefore, Chavez has a chance for a reduced sentencing. This, however, will depend on the  future ruling of a Federal Court Judge.
