SAN ANGELO, TX – This afternoon, Jonathan Jesse Marin, 27, appeared in Judge Barbara Walther’s court as the district attorneys, defense council and the judge discussed the time frame in which Marin would face trial. After considering other cases and the time it would take to finish those trials, Walther set the date for May 21, 2018.
Marin is being charged with capital murder after being identified as one of the four suspects responsible in the death of William Valdez, 69, in August of 2015. One of the other defendants, Fernando Lavaris, Jr., 30, will commence trial on January 22, 2018.
With three other capital murder cases on the docket, it has pushed a few cases to be back. In order to ensure both the state and the defense are prepared to commence trial in May, Walther appointed a series of Pre-Trial dates to address any issues. Those dates include April 5, June 1, Aug. 17, Nov. 30 in 2017 and on Jan. 17 and March 28 of next year.
District Attorney Allison Palmer will be representing the state in both the Isidrio Delacruz and Fernando Lavaris Jr. cases. By spacing out the trial dates, Judge Walther allows the district attorneys ample time to prepare for trial between cases.
