Ford Driver Hits Girl Crossing Bell Street with Her Bike and Brother

SAN ANGELO, TX - Shortly after 5 p.m. this evening, a vehicle struck a child crossing across Bell Street with her bike and her brother.

San Angelo Police Officer Brian Bylsma said he was originally dispatched to Paint Rock and Bell Street, but the crash actually occurred in the 1500 block of S. Bell St.

He said, "The investigation so far is telling me the 14-year-old girl was walking her bike across Bell Street. She was going west to east with her brother when the Ford Ranger pulled out of a private drive, did not see her coming across the street, attempted to make a left-hand turn to go south on Bell, and ended up colliding with the child."

The officer also said "it appears" the child has an incapacitating injury, and she was transported to Shannon Medical Center. Her brother did not sustain injuries.

"I'm not going to say much more beyond that because I'm not a doctor," Officer Bylsma pointed out.

However, Officer Bylsma said he marked the scene in case he has to return and do follow-up, but doesn't feel that will be the case.

"As of right now, there are no citations being issued because it's still under investigation, and I still need to talk to the child," said Bylsma.

He noted that officials shut down South Bell Street because the child was in the southbound lane for some time.
