SAN ANGELO, TX – A grand jury met for the second time in November and indicted 25-year-old Ricky Ray Ortegon Zuniga for Capital Murder of Multiple Persons and Capital Murder by Terror Threat/Other.
According to the indictment, Zuniga, along with co-defendants Raymond Alvarado, Krystal Lerma and Justin Gamez, on or about Sept. 12, 2016, “intentionally and knowingly” caused the deaths of Jimmy Andrew Gonzales and Anthony Michael Martinez by shooting them with a firearm in the course of committing, or attempting to commit, the offense of burglary of a habitation.
“Both murders were committed during the same criminal transactions,” read the indictment.
The arrest affidavit, which LIVE! reported on previously, explained how, on that day, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Rio Grande Street and found both Gonzales and Martinez with gunshot wounds inside the residence.
Both victims were transported to Shannon Medical Center, but were pronounced dead by medical personnel.
A witness at the scene told officials he observed three men enter the residence on Rio Grande St. and heard fighting. He then heard gunshots, took cover inside his nearby residence, and called police.
During their interviews, the co-defendants told their versions of what took place, which at times appeared contradictory. For more on this, visit our previous story here. For additional stories, click here and here.
