SAN ANGELO, TX – With the beginning of the holiday season, Angelo State University will be offering two shows in its full dome planetarium beginning Thursday, December 1.
Every Thursday, from December 1 to the 15, both shows will be featured on the dome. Shows are open to the public at affordable prices for all community members.
Admission prices are $3 for adults and $2 for children, active military and senior citizens. All ASU students, faculty and staff are admitted for no charge.
The first show, “Season of Light,” will commence at 7 p.m. every Thursday. The show will feature some of the season's most common traditions, as well as explore the story behind the “Star of Bethlehem.” Viewers will also have the opportunity to explore winter constellations and many of the legends surrounding the origins of legends such as Santa Claus, St. Nicholas, Sinterklaas, Kris Kringle and Father Christmas in different countries. In addition to running every Thursday, the show will also be featured on December 3 at 2 p.m.
The second show, “From Earth to the Universe,” will begin at 8 p.m. every Thursday. It features a virtual journey to the different planets and different areas of the galaxy. Viewers will have a chance to go beyond the Milky Way and discover the birthplace of stars, as well as learn about the history of astronomy. This show will also run after the “Season of Light” on December 3 at 3 p.m.
The Angelo State University Planetarium is located in the in the Vincent Nursing-Physical Science Building, 2333 Vanderventer St.
