A fire has broken out in a tan brick house at 101 Greer Street. Several fire trucks, fire rescue units, marshals and abulances are on scene, battling heavy smoke and extinguishing flames.
The majority of the damage appears to be concentrated on the carport and garage areas, as well as in the attic. Smoke can be seen pouring out of the front of the house, primarily in the center near a car port. The four door car parked under the port is ruined.

Update 10:26 a.m.
Firemen are packing up oxygen tanks and the fire appears to be extinguished. Exhibiting the care of the community, one woman lingered looking for the owners to ask if there was anything she could do to help.

The house was built in 1960 and is 1,968 square feet. The car port measures 500 square feet and is completely devastated. According to the Tom Green County Appraisal District, the house is valued at $114,900 and the land at $12,800. The current owners bought the house in June of 2013.
Update 10:55 a.m.
Reports were that the fire was contained very quickly this morning, due in part to firemen's quick response from the SAFD Training Center. Captain Hunt said a group of firemen had just completed training when the call came in and those eight responded immediately to the scene. The men had been doing restricted passageway training, Hunt said.

In a strange twist of fate, the owners of the house on Greer Street are family friends of the Drakes, whose house went up in flames on Jan. 8.
Update 11:01 a.m.
Fire Marshal Ross Coleman stated that the house is not a complete loss, however there is extensive smoke damage. The fire did breach the attic, Coleman said, but they were able to contain it to one bedroom. All surrounding structures are sound. The cause of the fire is stil under investigation. The call came at 9:05 a.m.
Coleman said approximately 21 firefighters responded to the call, including one Battalion Chief, Rescue and Assistant Chief of Operations. The Fire Department made a quick tactical entry through the front of the house, Coleman said.
The owners were at home when the fire started and have three children, however all made it out safely without injuries. The owner's blue Ford Fusion was destroyed in an extension of the fire, Coleman said.
