Austin Meade Set to Liven Things Up at Blaine's Pub

SAN ANGELO, TX - Although his most recent release tells of heartache, singer/songwriter Austin Meade has a lot to be happy about. He is perhaps one of the most buzzed about 'up and coming artists' in the Texas Country/Red Dirt music scene whose popularity is spreading like a wildfire. His influences include a combination of Americana/Country/and Blues genres, attracting music fans from all over Texas and beyond.

"All of the songs I've written have been about my life," said Meade.

Meade and his band are scheduled to play the Blaine's Pub stage on Saturday, Aug. 27. The concert starts at 10 p.m., and there is a $5 cover charge.

In his most recent video "Born with a Broken Heart," released this June, Meade said, "It's on Texas radio right now. We shot it with one of my friends out of Ft. Worth, Elaina Kay (click here)."

The video was mostly shot in Austin, Texas, but the house scenes were done at Meade's Aunt and Uncle's house; they were remodeling the house in Cuero, Texas.

"Sam Riggs' wife, Natalie, shot it and it was the first one I was involved in, so it was pretty cool," Meade added. "It just adds so much to the song when people can click on a video and see the story line play out. The way social media is nowadays, you have to market yourself and your business, so it was good for us to put the time and effort into making the video as it seems to be doing well for us."

Meade knows a thing or two about business and marketing as he is a 2015 graduate of Texas A & M with a degree in Agricultural Economics. Regarding how his education correlates with his music career, he said, "It's mostly business management." The band is, in fact, the business he manages.

"We were with a management company for awhile, but are now independent, which has its positive and negative aspects as well. I learned just as much outside of the classroom as I did in it.  I think that, of everything I've learned, a lot of it was entrepreneurship, which is what I'm doing right now."

Meade added that he grew up playing drums; he also started writing songs when he was a sophomore in college.

"While at A & M, I met our bass player Brenton Kim, and our drummer, Brandon Turner," he said. "As for Shane Boeker, our guitarist, although he is a little older than the rest of us, we both went to Brenham High School and he is an Aggie as well. Over time, we all became friends, and then it all just kind of fell together."

Meade added, "We started out playing together while I was in college and after graduation. [We] have been doing this thing full time. We've been fortunate to have some good friends to work alongside."

One example of these "good friends" includes Prophets and Outlaws. The two bands will share the stage in New Braunfels this Friday (click here)

Meade said, "We have three records out right now. The first was an EP, which was released in Feb 2014; then a full length record in December 2014 followed, and we toured off of that."

The band's most recent EP, "Heartbreak Coming," is made up of five songs that kick off a personal story of heartbreak and better days ahead.

"Listeners want new material often so the EP's are popular," said Meade.

For the 2017 release, which will continue the story, he estimated it will probably be out the middle of the year, and it will be full length.

As for his message for his fans, besides what he says through the music, Meade said, "Come out and listen to our music. I write about a lot of things that have happened to me, but I'm enjoying life right now. I feel that a lot of people are afraid to like jump off a ledge taking chances in life. When I graduated from A & M, I had job offers, but I ended up following this career path and running my own business; doing what I wanted to do. I'm really happy to be able to say that I started from nothing. I had music out to the public in early 2014, and, in a short time, have met so many cool people [whom] I consider family now, from following this career path. I don't know where my life would be had I not taken that chance. There have been a lot of big changes in my life because of it--good things. I just encourage everybody to do what you want in life and don't be scared to do it because someone gives you a weird look or doubts you."

As far as relationships go, Meade concluded, "There's a lot of things that go into them--timing as to where everybody is at in their life; I mean everybody goes through break ups, and broken hearts. Personally, I have no hard feelings against anyone in my life."
