Today, the San Angelo Police Department’s D.R.E.A.M. (Drug Resistance Education and Mentoring) Officers teamed up with Carlos Rodriguez from Kona Ice of San Angelo to bring a cool treat to local students and teachers who are preparing to head back to school.
Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD, said the Kona Ice truck made its first stops at Reagan and Goliad Elementary Schools to visit teachers who were attending in-service training.
"From there, the truck made its way to the Foster Communications Coliseum to deliver the sweet treats to the Central and Lakeview High School band members who were there rehearsing for the San Angelo Independent School District’s upcoming Convocation Ceremony," said Gonzalez.
She added that Kona Ice reached out to the Department in hopes of hosting an event before area kids head back to school. Approximately 550 Kona Ice snow cones were served during today’s event.
The Department’s D.R.E.A.M. Officers, Erica Morris and Rodrigo Hernandez, will attend Wednesday’s Convocation Ceremony, which is open to the public.
