Chris Morgan and 11 other re-enactors of Fort Concho’s Living History travelled to Gettysburg at the end of June to participate in the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.
Organized by the Blue Gray Alliance, the largest organization for re-enactors, the event had over 15,000 participants authentically re-enacting the various battles in Gettysburg.
Fort Concho was happy to participate, “We took our three-inch ordinance rifle and we were firing one pound charges,” said Morgan. “We were pretty loud.”
The Concho crew was a part of Pickett’s Charge and wore the gray uniforms of the Confederates. They were part of a twelve-gun battalion portraying the first Arkansas.
Up next for the Concho crew, the live round competition held at Fort Sill on Memorial Day.
“We’re getting first this year, we’ve got a couple second places, but this year I’m going for that first place,” Morgan said enthusiastically.
The Living History folk from Fort Concho can be seen throughout the year at various for events, and at Angelo State Football games where they fire the cannon on ASU touchdowns.
