Drunk Driver Takes Out Guardrail; Vehicle Flips and is Set Ablaze

 

Earlier this morning at 5:48 a.m., a 2011 Jeep Liberty struck a guardrail, flipped and caught fire on U.S. Highway 87.

Sergeant Justin Baker with DPS stated, “A 2011 Jeep Liberty was traveling southbound on U.S. 87. The driver was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and struck the guardrail causing the vehicle to overturn and catch fire. “

At the time of the accident, there were three occupants in the vehicle.

The driver of the Liberty was 24 year old Justin Del Rio of San Angelo. He walked away with non-incapacitating injuries, but was charged with two counts of intoxication assault.

The two passengers, 25 year old Richard Martinez and 25 year old Gaston Deyhoyos, were both injured due to the crash.

Martinez had incapacitating injuries consisting of severe burns to his hands. He is now being flown to Lubbock, Texas for treatment.

Deyhoyos was treated for an injured shoulder.
