For the first time in 30 years, the Texas Police Games are returning to San Angelo June 12-June 18, 2016. The Texas Police Games brings in over 30 different event competitions with over 1,000 competitors and their families. Some of the events are Power Lifting, Karate, Submission Wrestling, Bowling, Billiards, Basketball, Softball, and Golf as well as several shooting and running events. The Texas Police Games are open to active duty and retired Law Enforcement, Firefighters, and Military.
As the host Agency, the San Angelo Police Department got to pick a special event to be added to this year’s games. We will be hosting a Motorcycle Rodeo in honor of Sgt. Korby Kennedy who died in the line of duty on June 25, 2015. The Motorcycle Rodeo will consist of Police Motorcycle Officers from around the state competing in various skill challenges as well as a fun run. The Motorcycle Rodeo will take place in the parking lot behind the Spur Arena Monday June 13 through Wednesday June 15. The competition will start at 8 a.m. each day and we encourage the public to attend.
The citizens also have an opportunity to participate in the games in a way unlike any other year of the Police Games. Typically, each competitor can have one guest compete in their event with them, but for this year we have opened up several events in which any San Angelo citizen can compete.
These events are the 5K, 10K, Track and Field, Duathlon, and Triathlon.
The Triathlon will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday June 12 at Mary E Lee Park, 2160 Mary E Lee Park Road. The 5K will take place on Tuesday June 14 at 7 a.m. and the 10K will take place on Wednesday June 15 at 7 a.m.
Both the 5K and the 10K will start at Kids Kingdom, 290 W River Drive. The Track and Field events will be held at San Angelo Stadium on Thursday June 16. The field events will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the running events will begin at 6:00 p.m. The Duathlon will take place on Friday June 17 at 7:00 a.m. at Mary E Lee Park. Registration will be open at the Clarion Hotel, 441 Rio Concho Drive, on Saturday June 11 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday June 12 through Friday June 17 from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Any citizen who wishes to compete in these open events must register at least one day prior to the event. The cost of entering is $60 for the first event and $10 for every extra event. Each citizen who competes will get a competitor t-shirt and can attend the Texas Police Games Social on Tuesday June 14 at 6 p.m. at the River Stage.
All events are open to the public to come and watch. A complete schedule of events is attached with this press release. We encourage citizens to attend the events and support the competitors. Events are subject to cancellation based upon low number of entrants.
