Abilene Zoo Kicks off Summer With The Great Outdoors

The Abilene Zoo is starting summer break by celebrating the great outdoors Saturday, May, 28, with Get Out and Play Day.  

Special guest in attendance are Big Country Master Gardeners, Big Country Naturalists and Texas Parks & Wildlife. They will offer hands-on activities between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“Studies show that children who play outside are happier, more attentive and less anxious,” say Abilene Zoo Educator Paige Rudasics. “Nature is good for developing brains.”

The event will be sponsored by the Mayor’s Council on Physical Fitness, and all activities are free with zoo admission.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $4.50 for children ages 3-12, and $6 for seniors aged 60 and older.

The zoo has more than 1,000 animals of 270 species from around the globe. Opening times are seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with last admittance at 4 p.m. on any given day.
