One of the greatest perks about San Angelo, Texas is the live music on the weekends in the historic downtown area. Blaine's Pub, located at 10 W. Harris, is one venue known for bringing in Texas' finest up and coming young artists. In fact, this Friday, May 20, Jonathan Tyler will take the stage at 10 p.m.
At 31 years old, this native of Alabama, and now proud Texan, has been playing Rock 'n' Roll/Americana since the tender age of 16.
"I had a year of formal singing lessons, but am self-taught playing guitar," said Tyler. For the most part, he writes his own music, and, on occasion, enjoys playing cover songs. "One time, we did an hour and a half set of nothing but the Rolling Stones music, and it was great, especially playing Brown Sugar.
Tyler added, "I have a lot of musical influences, but if I had to name the top five, it would probably be Waylon Jennings, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Rolling Stones, The Staple Singers, and Ray Wylie Hubbard."
Tyler also said his band's latest release, "Holy Smokes," features his smokin' hot hit "Riverbottom" (see below). It epitomizes the love struck southern boy swooning after an independent cowgirl. One rendition of the song on YouTube has over 10,000 views, and fan comments are unanimous: the band always puts on one heck of a good show.
Additionally, their video "Disappear" has over 150,000 views, and with a Rod Stewart, "Maggie May" sound, Tyler sings of a former break up with acceptance, resilience and self reliance. From ballads to window shakin' bluesy rock, this band is sure to please all ages and tastes. However, don't be fooled by Tyler's Keanu Reeves/Johnny Depp "bad boy" appearance, for he's a true gentleman, easy going and likes to have fun.
The band's next tour date will be in Amarillo, Texas, and Tyler said he will "play anywhere just about," as he "loves making music for his fans." Please be sure and support the band by visiting their merchandise table, and take a minute to let Blaine's staff know how much you appreciate them bringing such talented entertainers to San Angelo.
