Angelo State University’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 847 will host its Spring Commissioning Ceremony for four graduates on Friday, May 13, In the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.
The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. in the C.J. Davidson Conference Center and is free and open to the public. The dress code for military personnel attending is uniform of the day.
The following ASU cadets will receive their commissions as second lieutenants in the U.S. Air Force: Matthew Cornman of San Antonio, Hakeem Regis of East Hartford, Conn., Ruben Perez of Dripping Springs and Quinn Sokolnicki of Abilene.
U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. (retired) Ronnie D. Hawkins Jr., a 1977 Angelo State graduate, will serve as guest speaker. Hawkins, as a three-star general, attained the highest rank among alumni of ASU’s Detachment 847.
Before his retirement in 2015, he led the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) for more than three years. DISA, based at Fort Meade, Md., is a global combat support agency with more than 14,000 personnel and an annual budget of $9 billion.
He is currently a visiting scholar at Angelo State, teaching an interdisciplinary leadership course in the Department of Security Studies and Criminal Justice.
