SAPD to Promote Four Officers and Swear In Two Returning Officers

 

Tomorrow, May 6, at 3:00 pm, the San Angelo Police Department will conduct a promotion ceremony for Officers Rick Tinsley, Ben Spencer, Antoine Callum, and Brian Gesch to the rank of Sergeant.  Immediately following the promotion ceremony, two former San Angelo PD Officers Dakota Martin and Louis Cortinas, have returned to the Department and will be sworn in.  The ceremonies will be held at the McNease Convention Center, located at 500 Rio Concho Drive, in the City Council Chambers.

A press release today noted that Officer Tinsley joined the SAPD on March 1, 1999.  Officer Tinsley has worked as a Patrol Officer, a Detective in the Criminal Investigation Division and the Special Operations Section, and Community Services. He was made an Acting Patrol Sergeant on February 1, 2016.  Officer Tinsley has a total of 5,643 training hours and holds a Master Peace Officer License.

Officer Spencer joined the SAPD on April 16, 2009. He has worked as a Patrol Officer since completing the Basic Peace Officer Academy.  Officer Spencer was made an Acting Patrol Sergeant on February 7, 2016.  He has 1,799 training hours and holds a Basic Peace Officer License.

Officer Callum joined the SAPD on October 10, 2008. He has worked as a Patrol Officer and a Detective in the Criminal Investigation Division and the Special Operations Section. Officer Callum was made an Acting Patrol Sergeant on April 3, 2016. He has 4,416 training hours and holds an Advanced Peace Officer License.

Officer Gesch joined the SAPD on April 16, 2004. He has worked as a Patrol Officer in the Lake Patrol Division, the K-9 Division, and is a member of the SWAT team. Officer Gesch was made an Acting Patrol Sergeant on April 11, 2016. He has 3,487 hours of training and holds a Master Peace Officer License.

Congratulations, gentlemen. You are in a wonderful position to mentor young officers and continue to increase the professionalism of an already wonderful department. Use your power wisely.

I worked with officer Gesch for a year or so when he was providing off duty security for the school district. During that time, I found him to be not only a good police officer but a very responsible and respectable person overall. Congratulations officer Gesch and all the officers on their promotions.
