Deadpool The Perfect $5 Tuesday Movie Pick at Icon Cinema

This weekend, as I walked out of Icon Cinema’s Screen 1 Iconic Theater where Deadpool showed, an older woman who looked to be in her late 50s or early 60s, said, “That was rude, crude, and just a terrible movie.”

The group she was with, all around the same age, said the same thing.

“I guess it’s just a generational thing,” the woman continued.

After hearing that statement, I couldn’t help but smile and say to myself, “Exactly!”

When it comes to the movie Deadpool, movie lovers are definitely going to experience the rude, the crude, and the violent. This is definitely not a movie to take Grandma and Grandpa to, nor a child, unless Grandma and Grandpa are younger and like movies with these themes. While I’m at it, this movie is definitely for contemporary minds, and for people who love movies based on graphic novels. Overall, Deadpool keeps things moving from start to finish.

This action-filled flick features Ryan Reynolds as the antihero from the Marvel Comics. Reynold’s character, Wade, is a former Special Operative who uses his skills to beat up “the bad guys worse than him.” However, when it appears Wade has found what all people dream of, love, happiness and family, he gets a tragic surprise. For those things, Wade allows himself to be subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him forever altered physically, both in a good and bad way. Of course, the good being his ability to heal and his new action hero strength. Hence, Deadpool is born, and a quest for revenge ensues.

After Green Lantern, many critics wondered if Ryan Reynolds could pull off another action hero movie. With an 84 percent rating on the TOMATOMETER, and ranking in at #1 over the weekend at $135 million, Reynolds definitely proved he could bounce back. By combining his witty humor with that of the Deadpool character, movie critics referred Reynolds and the flick as, “Fast, funny, and gleefully profane, the fourth-wall-busting Deadpool subverts superhero film formula with wildly entertaining -- and decidedly non-family-friendly -- results.”

As for audience members like you, movie goers gave Deadpool a 4.6 out of 5 stars. San Angelo LIVE! rates Deadpool the same. However, with Icon Cinema’s recliner seats, fresh popcorn, free drink refills, and that Iconic experience, the rating easily bumps up to 5 stars. It’s all about the overall movie experience after all.
