San Angelo Baptist Retirement Community Receives Excellence Awards

AUSTIN –The Baptist Retirement Community in San Angelo received the Employer Award of Excellence for the Workforce Solutions Concho Valley (Concho Valley) area at the Texas Workforce Commission’s (TWC) 17th Annual Texas Workforce Conference held Dec. 4-6 in San Antonio.

The Employer Award of Excellence honors employers that are actively involved with their local workforce board and have made a positive impact on employers, workers and the community.

The Baptist Retirement Community, a community-based geriatric service provider, was established in 1951 and is the only continuing care retirement community in the Concho Valley.

The retirement community assisted more than 1,200 participants with independent living, transitional rehabilitation, memory, home health and long-term care, personal assistance services and hospice care last year.

Baptist Retirement Community worked with Concho Valley to find qualified applicants for public, on-site Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) classes and developed into a training center for CNAs, licensed vocational nurses (LVNs), registered nurses (RNs), social workers, pharmacists, and therapists.

Concho Valley sent alerts through WorkInTexas.com for the CNA classes, and 20 students graduated from the program. Baptist Retirement Community also made more than 20 other hires—including CNAs, RNs and Certified Medications Aides—from posting the positions on WorkInTexas.com.

“The partnerships between our employers and our local workforce boards are so important in continuing to develop a skilled, well-trained workforce in Texas,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Hope Andrade. “I congratulate Baptist Retirement Community and Workforce Solutions Concho Valley for providing a great example of the power of those partnerships.”

Concho Valley also was recognized for outstanding board performance, receiving a $15,000 Performance Inventive Award for Claimant Re-employment.

The TWC Performance Incentive Awards recognize boards that display increased accountability and improved efficiencies. Monetary awards for achievement in these categories will be used to enhance workforce service programs during the next year.

Workforce Solutions Concho Valley is one of 28 local workforce boards located throughout the state. Concho Valley services Coke, Concho, Crockett, Irion, Kimble, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, Reagan, Schleicher, Sterling, Sutton and Tom Green counties.

The primary goal of TWC and the workforce boards is to respond to needs of Texas employers and workers through locally designed market-driven workforce development initiatives and services. All employers, workers and job seekers are eligible to take advantage of these services.
