M & R Nursery received a phone call three years ago from the Central High School soccer team that was a complete “game-changer” for the business. Since then, the nursery has been partnering with schools and churches to provide poinsettias for Christmas fundraisers.
“Last year and this year, with Magic Farms closing, a lot of the people who went through them started coming to us,” stated Mike Glaspie, owner of M & R Nursery. “It’s satisfying to be able to provide them the product at the prices they were used to paying. It’s worthwhile for us to do it and then they come back and talk about how nice they were and how everything went smoothly.”
Crystal Powell, manager of M & R Nursery for the past six years, said, “We take a lot of pride in them. We try to take very good care of them. We pick and choose where we get them from so they’re getting the best quality.”
Additionally, the nursery has a few in-store specials for the holidays. Glaspie noted, “Anybody [who] buys the cut trees or potted trees from us, we give them a dollar off of the poinsettia pot.”
A select group of Christmas inventory has already been marked down to half-off, and they are even offering custom lighting services for homes.
