San Angelo Firefighter Injured in Early Morning Blaze

A San Angelo firefighter was taken into emergency surgery this morning after falling through a ceiling while fighting a house fire.

Emergency dispatchers received a call of a fire at 2451 Baylor St. at 1:47 a.m. Monday. The first San Angelo Fire Department engine arrived at 1:42 a.m. After the blaze was extinguished, the injured firefighter was cooling hotspots in the attic – to ensure the fire didn’t reignite – when he fell through the ceiling, landing one story below. The firefighter was wearing full bunker gear at the time.

An ambulance rushed him to Shannon Medical Center, where he was taken into surgery about 7 a.m. He was alert and able to move his extremities. He remained in surgery as of 8:30 a.m.
