Undefeated Central Bobcats Remain Out of State Basketball Rankings

SAN ANGELO, TX — Despite a 12-0 start to the season, the San Angelo Central boys basketball team still hasn’t cracked this week’s state rankings.

The Bobcats’ unbeaten start was highlighted by last week’s run to the Doug McCutchen Tournament title in San Angelo.

Central beat Lubbock Estacado, the No. 4-ranked team in Class 4A, 96-91 during the tournament, then topped crosstown rival Lake View 74-39 in the final.

The Bobcats went 24-11 last season and lost in the first round of the playoffs. Among the players they graduated was standout player Christian English.

Central returned an exciting group of players, however, led by TK Taylor, Trey Allen and Ean McNeill, who combined for 38 points in last week’s win over Lake View.

The Bobcats also brought back head coach Arsenio Geter.

Central will put its perfect record on the line Tuesday when it travels to play Hobbs, New Mexico.

The only Concho Valley schools represented in the state rankings are in Class 1A, where Water Valley is No. 15 and Robert Lee is No. 24.
