SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State volleyball team defended its Lone Star Conference Tournament title Saturday without dropping a set.
The top-seeded Rambelles finished off a perfect run through the tournament with a 25-19, 25-20, 25-22 win over No. 2 Lubbock Christian at the Junell Center.
It was the 12th time in program history ASU has won the tournament, and it’s the third time the Belles have done so without dropping a set, joining the 1991 and 2016 teams. They swept Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday and UT Tyler on Friday.
ASU improved its record to 24-7 and will now take an 11-match winning streak into next week’s NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament.
The Belles automatically qualified for the regional tournament Dec. 4-7 with Saturday’s win. They’ll find out where they’ll be seeded during Monday’s selection show at 6:30 p.m. They were ranked No. 5 in the most recent regional rankings.
ASU isn’t ranked in the Top 25 nationally because of a slow start to the season when the Belles stumbled to a 13-7 record. They haven’t lost since, and this is a team that went to the national semifinals last year.
LSC Player of the Year Madi Parrish led ASU on Saturday with 16 kills and 13 digs as she repeated as the LSC Tournament MVP.
Julia Hopkins had 12 kills, while Cate Boldrick did not commit an error, converting seven kills from 11 swings for a .636 attack percentage.
Hannah Spencer had six kills on a .417 attack percentage and led the Belles with five blocks. She was named to the LSC All-Tournament Team for the second time in her career after earning that honor in 2023.
Madison Scrivner led the Belles with 21 assists, and Gabi Ashcraft fell just shy of a double-double with 19 assists and nine digs.
Libero Ireland Ferguson recorded nine digs and was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 4.44 digs per set.
