HOLLYWOOD — Giant snakes return this Christmas with the meta horror comedy “Anaconda” starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd.
The Anaconda franchise has generally garnered negative reviews with the original movie in 1997 garnering a rotten 41% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 24% audience score. Even with the poor reviews, it ended up with three sequels and a crossover with Lake Placid.
A fifth movie is entering the series on Dec. 25, 2025, simply titled “Anaconda”, which features Jack Black and Paul Rudd trying to remake their favorite film from when they were kids.
The synopsis for Anaconda reads:
A group of friends is going through a mid-life crisis. They decide to remake a favorite movie from their youth but encounter unexpected events when they enter the jungle.
The film is directed by Tom Gormican, who directed The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and That Awkward Moment. The film stars:
- Jack Black (Minecraft, School of Rock) as Doug McCallister
- Paul Rudd (Ant-Man, Death of a Unicorn) as Ronald Griffen Jr.
- Steve Zahn (Saving Silverman, Strange Wilderness) as Jenny Trent
- Thandiwe Newton (Westworld, Solo: A Star Wars Story) as Claire Simons
- Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad, Fast X) as Ana Almeida
The original in 1997 has a cult following and, according to Ice Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., the animatronic snake was more dangerous behind the scenes than anything shown on screen.
Anaconda slithers into theaters on Dec. 25, 2025.
