Shannon to Host Annual Meeting to Recertify Its State Antitrust Protection

SAN ANGELO, TX — Shannon will host an annual public meeting regarding its Certificate of Public Advantage (COPA) on Thursday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m. at the Shannon Medical Center 2nd floor Legacy Conference Room, located at 120 E. Harris Ave. in San Angelo.

The COPA public meeting is required by the 2019 Texas legislation that allows Shannon Health to operate as a monopoly with antitrust protection under state and, by forcing antitrust lawsuits against Shannon to traverse Texas courts first, federal laws. Hendrick Health in Abilene enjoys the same protection under the same law.

The purpose of the annual COPA meeting with the community is to recertify Shannon's designation under HSC Chapter 314A. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is the agency designated by the governor to review and approve or deny COPA applications and to supervise the activities for which a COPA is issued.

The meeting is open to anyone within the Shannon service area and will provide a brief update from Shannon. Participants will then have an opportunity to provide oral comments during the meeting.

Shannon is also accepting written comments via www.careforsanangelo.com through 11:59 p.m. on September 24. For more information about the meeting, please visit www.careforsanangelo.com or email [email protected].
