HOLLYWOOD — A24 has released the first trailer for Benny Safdie’s “The Smashing Machine," a biographical film about the former wrestler and MMA fighter Mark Kerr, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the main role.
The Smashing Machine is based on the life of Kerr, a former MMA and UFC fighter who battled through his personal struggles and pain pill addiction. The official synopsis simply reads:
MMA fighter Mark Kerr reaches the peak of his career but faces personal hardships.
In the director’s chair is Benny Safdie, who has broken out with quite the impressive career. Benny started off directing with his brother, Josh, and together, directed "Good Time" in 2017 with Robert Pattinson then in 2019 directed "Uncut Gems" with Adam Sandler. Benny is also an actor with roles in "Good Time" as Nick Nikas, 2020’s "Pieces of a Woman" as Chris, 2023’s "Oppenheimer" as Edward Teller, and will play a role in Christopher Nolan’s "The Odyssey."
Dwyane Johnson, who is usually featured in action movies like "The Fast and the Furious" franchise, "Black Adam", the "Jumanji" remakes, "Jungle Cruise" and the animated Disney film, "Moana."
The "Smashing Machine" also features Emily Blunt, who starred in films like "Sicario," "Oppenheimer" and the "A Quiet Place" franchise.

Also featured are Bas Rutten and Stephen Quadros as themselves.
"The Smashing Machine" hits theaters on Oct. 3, 2025. The film is directed by Benny Sadfie and is produced by A24.
