Discolored San Angelo Water Under Investigation, City Says It’s Safe

SAN ANGELO, TX — The City of San Angelo is investigating recent reports of discolored water in the municipal system following a water supply shift from Lake Ivie early Saturday morning, August 30. Lake Ivie provides approximately half of the city’s drinking water.

According to city officials, the discoloration was likely caused by natural shifts in the lake or changes in pipeline pressure that stirred up sediment. Crews began flushing fire hydrants on Saturday in an effort to clear the lines. However, some areas of town continue to be affected.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has inspected the water treatment plant, reviewed system records, and collected water samples. Officials confirmed that the water is properly treated and remains in compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act.

The City expects water conditions to normalize within the next few days. Residents with questions or concerns can contact Public Works at 325-657-4206.
