Junior Angler Sets Overall Record in Concho River for Channel Catfish

SAN ANGELO, TX — A local junior angler reeled in a record-breaking channel catfish recently from the Concho River in San Angelo.

Cooper Owens’ catch weighed 4.65 pounds and was measured at 22.75 inches long.

According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, it’s the biggest channel catfish recorded from the Concho River in both the junior angler and overall categories.

Channel catfish are stocked in the Concho River between Oakes and Irving streets as part of the TPWD’s Neighborhood Fishin’ program. San Angelo is one of 18 cities around the state included in the program.
