SAN ANGELO, TX — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department stocked the Concho River in downtown San Angelo with channel catfish on Thursday, July 3.
The fish were released in the river between Oakes and Irving streets as part of the TPWD’s Neighborhood Fishin’ program. San Angelo is one of 18 cities around the state included in the program.
The program aims to make fishing more accessible by placing fish in urban waters across Texas. Each participating lake or river location will receive biweekly catfish deliveries, except for a brief pause in August.
Anglers can keep up to five fish of any kind (all species combined) per day, with one black bass 14 inches or greater in length. Adults are required to have a fishing license, which starts at $11 for a one-day pass or $30 for an annual freshwater license. Youths under 17 do not need a license. All proceeds go toward the management of the fisheries, providing access, and conservation of Texas fish and their habitats.

Neighborhood Fishin’ is supported by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation through donations from Friedkin Family Foundation and Phillips 66, as well as local government bodies across the state.
