Dallas Zoo Welcomes Twins to the Family

DALLAS, TX — The Dallas Zoo had some exciting news for all of its patrons on Wednesday evening, April 19. Two new additions to their Emperor Tamarin Monkey family have been announced.

In a post from the Dallas Zoo’s Facebook page, the zoo announced, “Say hello to our newest emperor tamarin monkey TWINS, born March 29, to mom Lettie and dad Roger. These little ones can be seen riding on mom or dad's back, and sometimes even the backs of their older siblings, Chico and Ilsa! Everyone pitches in to help raise the young. It's important for older siblings to participate so they can learn how to be parents one day.

“Stop by the Tamarin Treetops habitat near Primate Place to spot these little ones,” the zoo said.

This post comes with great news after a series of thefts put a serious strain on the Tamarin monkeys. Back in late January, two of the Tamarin monkeys were stolen from their exhibit at the Dallas Zoo. The police arrested Darion Irving for the theft of the two monkeys that the police discovered in a vacant home. Irving faces one count of burglary and six counts of animal cruelty for the alleged crime. The two monkeys, Bella and Finn, were returned to the Dallas Zoo.

After spending time in quarantine, both monkeys were reintroduced back into their enclosure.

Irving also faces a burglary charge in relation to the escape of a clouded leopard named Nova, who was discovered missing on Jan. 13. A cut was found in her enclosure, and the zoo closed as a search was launched. She was found later that day near her habitat.
