HOBBS, NM –– The mother of a baby abandoned in a dumpster on Friday afternoon has been charged with child abuse and attempted murder –– two first-degree felonies.
According to the Hobbs Police Department, on Friday evening officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of N. Thorp St. for reports of a newborn child being found in a dumpster.
The abandoned infant was transported to a local hospital and later transferred to a Lubbock area hospital. The baby is now in stable condition.
Surveillance footage showed the mother of the child, identified as 18-year-old Alexis Avila, leaving the child behind. When questioned by police, Avila "confessed to giving birth to the child at another location and then placing the baby in the dumpster."
Avila will be formally arraigned on Monday, January 10th.

PermalinkThis person did not "place" the newborn in the dumpster as the article stated.. she callously tossed the baby, literally like a bag of trash, without so much as a hint of compassion or mercy. Wonder if she'll expect compassion and mercy be shown her when she goes to court to answer for her crime?

PermalinkThis woman tried to kill her baby. I guess since she didn't succeed she only has to stay home, kind of like being grounded. I'm sure that will teach her a hard lesson. She will probably never again try to kill another child. What BS!
