FORT WORTH, TX –– The Euless Police Department is mourning the loss of a detective after a fatal crash occurred on Saturday.
According to the Euless PD, Detective Alejandro “Alex” Cervantes was killed near Forth Worth.
The preliminary investigation revealed a Jeep Wrangler and a Chevy Impala were traveling on Boat Club Rd at Rocky Point Trail at approximately 1:33 p.m.
According to officials, Dylan Molina was driving the Jeep when he ran a red light and struck the side of the Chevy Impala –– where Detective Cervantes and three other passengers were traveling.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the occupants of the Impala were trapped inside the vehicle. The driver of the Impala, identified as Cervantes, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The adult female passenger was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries. The two children in the vehicle were transported to Cook Children's Medical Center with serious injuries sustained in the back seat.
Molina initially attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended by bystanders until authorities arrived.
Molina exhibited signs of intoxication and was charged with Intoxication manslaughter and three counts of Intoxication Assault.
According to the Euless Police Department, Cervantes served with the department for nearly seven years and was a member of the Police Department Honor Guard Team. Before serving the Euless community, Cervantes spent eight years with the El Paso Police Department.
