Hospital Patient Arrested After Stealing Ambulance

 

SAN ANTONIO, TX –– A hospital patient is facing charges after police say he stole an ambulance from the hospital.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, the incident occurred late Wednesday evening.

The suspect, who has not been identified at this time, had been a patient at Baptist Medical Center on Dallas Street.

As the patient left the hospital, he found an unattended ambulance that had been running outside the hospital.

A hospital employee watching the security cameras saw the suspect get into the emergency vehicle and take off.

The employee then began chasing after the man in his personal vehicle as he called 9-1-1.

The suspect ended up driving into a dead-end, allowing the hosptial employee to approach.

The employee attempted to confront the suspect, but was struck by the ambulance door. The employee then returned to his vehicle to retrive a handgun and eventually fired a shot at the suspect, who allegedly came at him with a knife.

The suspect was not hit by the shot, but a back tire was struck by the bullet.

After the suspect fled the scene he was stopped by officers near the Downtown Greyhound Bus Station. He was arrested and later charged with Aggravated Robbery.
