Police: Teen Dies After Swallowing Drugs During Arrest

 

HOUSTON, TX -- A Houston area teen is dead after police say he swallowed drugs as he was tased by police.

According to the Houston Police Department, on Wednesday evening officers were conducting a narcotics investigation near Westward Street and Elm Street.

The teen, who was part of the investigation, attempted to drive away. He then stopped and exited the vehicle before attempting to run away on foot.

The officers pursued the teen and a struggle ensued. In an effort to subdue the teen, a police officer deployed two taser darts.

One of the darts hit the teen and one hit a fellow officer.

The teen was eventually subdued and places into the patrol, but was not showing any signs of distress.

The teen then began complaining of chest pains and admitted to swallowing drugs.

He was transported to a local hospital but went into cardiac arrest on the way. He would die upon arriving at the hospital.

The Houston Police Department confirmed an internal affairs investigation is underway and the officer who was tased is okay.
