Police: Mom Killed Six-year-old for Insurance Payout

HOUSTON,  TX – A 25-year-old Texas mother is in police custody after she allegedly murdered her six-year-old son in order to collect on a life insurance policy.

According to police, Ashley Marks purposely overdosed her son Jason with lethal amounts of over-the-counter medicines, meth, and cocaine.

Jason passed away on June 27, 2020, after the medical examiner determined he had been drugged with "chlorpheniramine, dextromethorphan, and diphenhydramine with methamphetamine."

The six-year-old had just graduated from first grade and had an "excellent report card."

Jason wanted to work at the rodeo or to be a firefighter when he grew up.

"Jason loved drawing, and watching movies with his family every night," his obituary read. "Jason was loved by everyone that knew him, and he will be deeply missed."

According to prosecutors, Marks allegedly killed her son to collect on two life insurance policies totaling $100,000. Marks was charged with capital murder in connection to Jason's death.
